A postcard from #Charleston: A vibrant movement occurred in the 1920s when Charleston became the muse for a cadre of poets, playwrights, painters, and musicians who collectively produced a voluminous body of work inspired by Charleston’s curious customs and evocative geography. The era, which spanned 1915 – 1940, became known as the Charleston Renaissance, a far-reaching movement with enduring éclat. #HarperHotels #ahinsiders

A postcard from #Charleston: Planters Inn is a reflection of its unique legacy and location. From flickering carriage lanterns to Gullah sweetgrass baskets, the intimate 64-room Inn is a harmonious blend of Lowcountry inspiration and understated elegance. With a courtyard shaded by palmetto and crepe myrtle trees, column-lined piaz- zas, and distinctively residential details, Planters Inn is a polished homage to an authentic antebellum Charleston mansion. #HarperHotels #ahinsiders

A postcard from #Charleston: Today’s post is in honor of the late great Philip Simmons, whose blacksmith artistry adorns the Historic District.

"My instrument is an anvil. I guess some of you have heard me play…a tune on the anvil. The old blacksmith tune. I’m proud of that avil, really proud. It’s very dear to my heart. That anvil fed me when I was hungry and that anvil clothed me when I was naked. That anvil put shoes on my feet." -Philip Simmons
